The Boston police on Friday night announced that the suspect in the Boston bombings, the 19-year-old Dzhokar Tsarnaev, was in their custody.

The Boston police tweeted the development: CAPTURED!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won. Suspect in custody.

Dzhokar on Friday escaped a shootout with the Boston police in suburban Watertown in which his older brother Tamerlan – also \wanted in the bombings – dead.

CNN.com reported that Dzhokar was apprehended from a boat in a yard in Watertown, a suburb of Boston.

The website also reported that ‘search followed a violent night in which authorities say the two men allegedly hurled explosives at pursuers after killing Massachusetts Institute of Technology police Officer Sean Collier and hijacked a car’.

The Boston police followed up their triumphant tweet with a more sober one: In our time of rejoicing, let us not forget the families of Martin Richard, Lingzi Lu, Krystle Campbell and Officer Sean Collier.

Martin, Lingzi and Krystle were killed in the blast at the Boston marathon.

The police will hold a press conference shortly on the operation.
